Located on the edge of Fiordland National Park near Te Anau, Burwood Station is one of New Zealand's iconic high country farms. From expansive tussock landscapes and rolling hill country to fertile flats, the station's diverse environment shapes every aspect of how the land is farmed and cared for.

Current conditions:

As part of the Lumina programme, Burwood Station produces premium New Zealand lamb while working in harmony with the natural environment. Farming here means adapting to the rhythms of the seasons, caring for stock in all conditions, and protecting the landscapes that make this region so unique.

Sustainability at Burwood is built on the understanding that healthy ecosystems support healthy animals. Native vegetation, tussock, scrub and bush provide vital shelter for sheep throughout the year, while protecting waterways and encouraging biodiversity across the farm. Every decision is made with a long-term view, ensuring the land remains productive and resilient for generations to come.

For the team at Burwood, animal welfare is a year-round commitment. Whether it's a warm summer's day or snow covering the hills, providing shelter, care and the right environment for their stock is at the heart of everything they do.

"Biodiversity is incredibly important on our farm. Looking after the land, the stock and the waterways all goes hand in hand. When we care for one part of the environment, it helps support everything else"

Hamish McClean

Being part of the Lumina community also means being part of something bigger. Burwood works alongside like-minded farmers who share ideas, continually improve their practices, and strive to raise the standard of sustainable farming across New Zealand.
